Resisting the Law of Association

Let me share my observation about people from three walks of life – Yoga Teachers, Psychologists and Jail Superintendents (or Jailors). All over the world, the personal life of Yoga Teachers is not as great as their Yoga practice. Let’s analyse – Who are the people who come to learn Yoga? Only those who have some problem – either physical or mental. If everything was great, nobody will approach Yoga unless that person has a good Prarabdha.

What happens to Yoga teachers? Unless they follow a disciplined life, their student’s problem becomes the Yoga teacher’s problem. Especially, those Yoga teachers who start mingling with their students as friends, have more problems. As a Yoga teacher, you forget that people come to you because of your positive energy. In order to maintain your energy, you have to take efforts, else your energy will drop when you meet such students. For Yoga teachers the energy drops at a physical level, whereas for phycologists it happens at a mental level. Psychologists seldom know how to dissociate from their clients. They may be good professionally but with respect to their own self, they are not objective.

Generally, people who have issues with their astral chart will have psychological issues. If the psychologist does not take care of the astral cleanliness aspect, definitely it will affect the psychologist. Let me give an example from my personal life. Whenever I go to prisons to address the inmates, I have seen the Jailors looking very depressed and stressed as they always think of controlling the prisoners. Due to this, their energy drops significantly. All this happens due to “Law of association” of our body and mind. Be it Yoga teacher or psychologist, or Jailor, they don’t dissociate themselves from the people they deal with. A simple astral cleanliness aspect we follow in Hindu tradition is, we wash our mouth, face and feet after eating food. We don’t simply wipe our mouth with a tissue paper as astrally you don’t dissociate with the food. You continue to remain connected. After eating food, when you wash your mouth, face and feet, you will discover, then and there you will dissociate from that food. Mentally, you will not be associated with the food you have eaten. That longing for food will not be there. A research has been done in Italy with respect to Pizza which says that you will have better satisfaction when you cut Pizza into small pieces and eat it instead of biting a large chunk. The more you dissociate, the more you will enjoy the life. Hence it is very important that all of you learn this aspect of dissociation. (Excerpts from Swamiji’s Satsang in Italy)
