Skandamātā स्कन्दमाता, literally meaning Mother of Skanda or Lord Kartikeya, the warrior God.

The pictorial depiction of Skanda Mata shows her with four hands. Mounted on a lion, Skanda Mata is seen carrying baby Skanda (Kartikeya) with six heads seated on her lap. She holds lotuses on the upper right and left hand, and the Abhaya Mudra in the lower right hand. With the other left hand, she holds baby Skanda. 

Significance of Worship

She is the Goddess of Fire always gives Freedom, power, prosperity, and treasures to her devotees. She can grant oceans of wisdom even to the most illiterate person if he happens to worship her. Skandamātā who possesses the brilliance of the sun fulfills all the desires of her devotees. He who surrenders to her attains all the achievements and treasures of life. The worship of Skandamātā purifies the heart of a devotee. As she is with God Skanda in her lap, doing puja to her is like doing puja to both God Skanda, and Mother. Her worship is twice blessed.

Śubhadāstu sadā dēvī skandamātā yaśasvinī ..

या देवी सर्वभू‍तेषु माँ स्कन्दमाता रूपेण संस्थिता।
