What is marriage?

marriageIn the Kingdom of the Forest, the Lion King was getting married. All the animals of the Kingdom had assembled for the marriage, and were rejoicing at the event. At that time, the rat fell on the floor laughing loudly. Everybody was surprised and annoyed at the same time. The rat was asked what he thought to be so funny at the king’s wedding. The rat replied, “ I am not laughing at the King or anybody here. But, I am laughingly looking at the situation.” Everybody became confused. The mighty elephant asked, “What is so funny about this situation?” The rat replied, “A few years back, when I was not married, I had thought that I am a Lion and not a rat. However, after marriage …”

This may be the experience of many people about their marriage. However, this is not correct. Marriage is the coming together, not of two individuals, but of two families, two generations. When one approaches marriage with the intent of getting things done or to boss over, one discovers that he/she is a rat after marriage. However, if one approaches marriage for growing up out of it, one becomes a mature person and marriage becomes a learning, and an enriching opportunity.
