Bhubaneswar/New Delhi: PM Modi led the nation in paying tributes to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on his 125th birth anniversary. Taking to Twitter PM Modi wrote: “I bow to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on his Jayanti. Every Indian is proud of his monumental contribution to our nation.”
PM Modi has installed a grand granite statue of the iconic freedom fighter at New Delhi’s India Gate as a symbol of India’s indebtedness to him. The government has also declared that 23rd January will be celebrated as the ‘Parakram Diwas’ (Day of Valour).
Clement Richard Attlee, who was the PM of the United Kingdom from 1945 to 1951 agreed that Netaji was the toughest challenge the British Empire faced. He also stated that because of the military activities of Netaji Subhas Chandra, the erosion of loyalty to the British crown among the Indian Army and Navy personnel scaled up massively.
Bose was born on January 23, 1897, in Cuttack, Odisha. From childhood, he was a patriot and he never tolerated any foreigner talking against Indians. A politician and intellectual par excellence, Netaji is known for his special contribution to India’s freedom struggle. Netaji considered Swami Vivekanand his spiritual Guru. He formed the Azad Hind Fauj, a military regiment, to counter Britishers.
