A person who lacks confidence in himself tends to place more importance on the views of others. Owing to a lack of self-acceptance, the person ends up seeking others’ attention. Based on the time and situation, the person tries to just establish himself. This person can be any one among us. Many among us try to prove ourselves, justify our standpoint and way of thinking, all for the mere purpose of gaining attention, so that we can accept ourselves. However, a person who has reposed complete trust in God, the totality, will be able to accept himself as he is. Due to thisself-acceptance, the person will be able to accept situations and people as they come in without letting them create a disturbance within. Let me share an incident that will reflect this approach beautifully.
A very poor old man who had ultimate trust in God, the totality, was interviewed by a newspaper. Accidentally,a rich man, who is a non-believer of God,happenedto read this interview. He decided to make fun of the old man. He acquired his address, made a call to his secretary and ordered him to buy large quantities of food in order to send it to the old man. However, he sent it with the following instruction,
“When the old man asks who sent the food, tell him that it is from a person who does not believe in God”
When the secretary arrived at the old man’s house, the old man was so happy and grateful for the help that he received. He started storing the food inside his small house. The secretary then asked him,
”Don’t you want to know who sent the food?”
The old man replied, ”No, please convey my thanks to the one who sent this! I don’t care who the person is because when God orders, even the person who does not believe in Him obeys!
